At Gatehouse School pupils from Year 3 have their Science lessons in our well-equipped Science Laboratory.  The pupils are encouraged to make links between the different branches of science and between science and other subjects in order to deepen their understanding of how the world works.

There is a strong emphasis on practical work and both investigative and thinking skills are taught enabling the pupils to become increasingly independent at planning, recording and carrying out their own experiments and investigations.  Year 6 are able to showcase these skills in a yearly exhibition.

Regular visits to the Natural History Museum, the Centre of the Cell and London’s many other educational centres help to promote the idea that Science is exciting and relevant to the world around us and to the lives of each pupil.

At Gatehouse we invite specialists in particular fields of Science to present workshops and talks for the pupils.

A half termly optional science project encourages the pupils to have fun with science outside the classroom – please visit the Downloadable Forms section for the Parents’ Area for information on this term’s project.

Gatehouse pupils are encouraged to participate in nationwide competitions.  Additionally, we send teams of pupils to science events such as the Bancroft’s School Science Fair, Forest School Science Competition and the annual Quiz Club Science Competition.
