A Typical Day in Gatehouse Nursery

Every day at Gatehouse Nursery is filled with opportunities to explore, discover, play and learn. Our daily routine provides a balance of teacher-led activities, specialist lessons, creative experiences and child-initiated play, helping children develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.

The timetable below offers an example of a typical Nursery day. Activities and timings may vary to accommodate specialist lessons, Forest School and other exciting learning opportunities.

8.50–9.15am Welcome and Registration Children are warmly welcomed into Nursery, settle into their surroundings and prepare for the day ahead.
9.15–10.00am Teacher-Led Learning Engaging activities focused on early literacy, mathematics, communication and understanding the world.
10.00–11.00am Snack, Stories and Play Time to enjoy milk and fruit, listen to stories, socialise and explore through play.
11.00–11.45am Learning and Specialist Lessons Teacher-led activities or specialist sessions, including French, Music, Dance, Games and Library.
11.45am–12.45pm Lunch and Story Time Children enjoy a nutritious lunch, supported by Nursery staff, followed by a quieter period of stories and relaxation.
12.45–1.30pm Circle Time and Play Opportunities to share ideas, develop friendships, practise communication skills and enjoy collaborative activities.
1.30–1.35pm Afternoon Registration Children come together and prepare for the afternoon’s activities.
1.35–2.15pm Child-Initiated Learning Children follow their interests through imaginative, creative and exploratory play in our indoor and outdoor learning areas.
2.15–2.45pm Creative Activities and Projects Art, craft and topic-based activities encourage imagination, creativity and practical skills.
2.45–2.55pm Afternoon Snack Time for milk and fruit.
2.55–3.05pm Stories and Songs A calm opportunity to enjoy stories, rhymes and songs together.
3.05–3.15pm Preparing for Home Children gather their belongings, reflect on their day and prepare for collection.
3.15pm Home Time The Nursery day finishes.

Nursery opens for registration at 8.50am, with early drop-off available from 8.30am. Breakfast Club and After School Club are also available for families requiring additional childcare.
