Following Nursery, the next big step your children make at Gatehouse School is into our Lower Junior classes.
This transition from Nursery to the Lower Juniors is made smooth by the attendance of regular assemblies, playtimes and Foundation Stage meetings, which enable the Nursery children to become very familiar with the Reception setting, routines and staff.
Here at Gatehouse School the Lower Junior pupils relish in their growing capabilities, throwing themselves in to all that Gatehouse has to offer, both inside and outside the classroom.
Our Lower Juniors are housed in our new state-of-the-art bespoke classrooms, with Reception located on the ground floor with a fantastic outdoor terraced area, and our Year 1 classes being next to our impressive Wallbank Hall.
All Lower Junior classes are taught predominantly by their caring and supportive Form Teachers and Teaching Assistants within their own classrooms allowing them to flourish and forge a love of learning. Classes not taught by their form teachers are Games, French, ICT, library and music, all of which are taught by our specialist teaching staff ensuring each pupil at Gatehouse School receives a rich and varied range of knowledge.
In addition, discreet phonic lessons are timetabled in the curriculum and your child will read with an adult each day.
Swimming lessons begin in Reception and take place once a week at York Hall Swimming Baths. These lessons are taught by qualified swimming teachers.
