Year 2 is the final Year of Lower Juniors before our pupils make the important transition into our subject taught curriculum in the Upper Juniors. Throughout this time, children are prepared and taught how to be independent and confident learners.

As in Year 1, children continue to be taught by their form teacher who is responsible for the following subjects: maths, English, science, history, geography and PSHE. Children receive specialist teaching in ICT, French, music, art and PE.

The children read to a member of staff at Gatehouse School three to four times a week and are encouraged to read a range of genres.  Reading is reinforced through the children’s weekly library lesson in our new, bright, well stocked Library.

In Year 2 we enable our pupils to consolidate and broaden their learning skills and abilities through creative and stimulating lessons. Our topics vary from studying traditional stories to the history of food, weather, poetry linked to the five senses as well as the Great Fire of London.

Homework is set daily and covers all form subjects in addition to reading and spelling.

At the end of Year 2 our pupils at Gatehouse are ready for their seamless progression into our Upper Juniors department.
