Computing

At Gatehouse School, pupils take part in a weekly Computing lesson in our dedicated computer suite, led by a specialist Computer Science teacher. These lessons are designed to complement and enhance learning in other subjects through cross-curricular links. For example, children exploring polls and percentages in Maths may reinforce their understanding through data analysis and graph plotting using spreadsheets, while Science topics are often supported by internet research and digital presentation skills. From Year 3 onwards, all pupils have individual Google accounts, enabling collaborative and independent digital work.

Our Computing curriculum is designed to equip pupils with a broad and practical range of computing and digital literacy skills. Alongside learning to use a variety of programs and platforms, pupils also explore the fundamentals of computer programming. In Key Stage 1, this involves an introduction to simple coding concepts and algorithms. In Key Stage 2, pupils progress to designing their own computer games and developing interactive tools—such as maths-based learning resources—using Scratch and Python.
