At Gatehouse, pupils take part in a dedicated weekly Computing lesson in our fully equipped computer suite. These lessons are taught by a specialist Computer Science teacher and are designed not only to build essential digital skills but also to complement learning across the curriculum.
Cross-Curricular Connections
Our Computing lessons often support and enhance other subjects. For example:
- In Maths, pupils may explore percentages through data handling and graphing using spreadsheets.
- In Science, they may carry out internet-based research or create digital presentations to communicate findings.
From Year 3 onwards, all pupils are provided with individual Google accounts, allowing them to develop collaborative and independent working skills using a range of Google Workspace tools.
A Broad and Practical Curriculum
Our Computing curriculum is designed to give pupils a strong foundation in both digital literacy and computer science. Children learn to navigate and use a variety of software platforms confidently and safely.
Programming and Problem Solving
We introduce pupils to programming from an early age, developing their logical thinking and creativity:
- In Key Stage 1, pupils are introduced to basic coding concepts and simple algorithms using child-friendly tools.
- In Key Stage 2, they progress to creating interactive games, quizzes, and tools using platforms like Scratch and Python.
These experiences empower pupils to become confident digital creators, not just users of technology.
