Here at Gatehouse School we aim for excellence in both performance and attitude by providing first class lessons and coaching with ample opportunities to train and compete.  We are a fully inclusive school and every pupil is encouraged to enjoy an interest in individual or team games whilst developing a healthy attitude to fitness and exercise.

Swimming Lessons

All pupils from Reception to Year 6 have weekly swimming lessons at York Hall Pool, Bethnal Green, taught by specialist swimming instructors.

Reception – Year 4 30-minute weekly lesson
Years 5 and 6 45-minute weekly lesson

Competitive Sport and Fixtures

Gatehouse is proud to support pupils at all levels of sport, from friendly matches to national competitions. We organise a wide range of fixtures throughout the year for teams of varying abilities.

Our pupils regularly represent the school at Area and National competitions. A recent highlight includes being crowned 2024 ISA U11 Boys National Football Champions.

Extracurricular Sports and Clubs

Sport at Gatehouse extends far beyond the school day. We offer a wide variety of after-school clubs each term, which have included:

  • Football
  • Netball
  • Rugby
  • Dodgeball
  • Tennis
  • Gymnastics
  • Multi-sports

A full list of available clubs is sent to parents at the start of each term.


House Events and Annual Competitions

House competitions are an important part of school life and allow every child to take part in a variety of sporting events throughout the year:

  • Inter-House Football – Autumn Term
  • Inter-House Netball – Autumn Term
  • Inter-House Cross Country – Spring Term
  • Swimming Gala – Spring Term
  • Nursery, Lower Junior and Upper Junior Sports Days – Summer Term

Sports Kit and Uniform

A full list of the required P.E. kit for each term can be found in the Uniform List section on our website. All uniform items are available from our supplier, Khalsa Schoolwear.
