At Gatehouse School, our House system is all about teamwork, friendship, and demonstrating our Champion qualities. It encourages pupils to mix across year groups, take pride in their house, and enjoy a healthy sense of competition.

Every child is placed into one of our four Houses when they join the school:

• Dragon – Red

• Phoenix – Green

• Sphinx – Yellow

• Unicorn – Blue

Older pupils support and mentor younger ones, helping to build strong relationships across the school. Each House meets regularly to share ideas, organise charity events, and prepare for the many exciting competitions held throughout the year.

These include:

• Sports Day

• Swimming Gala

• Art and Poetry Competitions

• Maths Quizzes

• Talent Shows

• Themed assemblies and dress-up days

Children earn House Points for their House through participation in events and competitions, as well as for individual achievements. Whether it’s performing in assembly, completing a brilliant project, or showing kindness to others, pupils may be awarded a House Point token in recognition of their efforts.

Year 6 House Captains help lead the way, supporting their teams and helping to organise events throughout the year.

At the end of the year, the House with the most points is awarded the House Shield—a proud celebration of teamwork, talent, and Gatehouse spirit.
