At Gatehouse Nursery, we believe that the earliest years are some of the most important in a child’s development. Our Nursery provides a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel happy, safe and valued, giving them the confidence to explore, discover and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Located within our New House building, with its own dedicated outdoor play area, our Nursery offers children the opportunity to learn through play, exploration and meaningful experiences. Our experienced teachers and teaching assistants take the time to get to know each child, recognising their individual interests, abilities and needs, and supporting them as they grow in confidence and independence.

Learning Through Discovery

We recognise that young children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning. Through a carefully balanced programme of child-initiated play and teacher-led activities, children are encouraged to ask questions, experiment, solve problems and develop the skills that form the foundations of future learning.

Following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, our approach supports every aspect of a child’s development, from communication, language and early literacy to mathematics, physical development, creativity and personal, social and emotional wellbeing.

Enriching Every Child’s Experience

One of the strengths of Gatehouse Nursery is the breadth of opportunities available to our youngest learners. Alongside their daily Nursery experiences, children benefit from weekly specialist teaching in French, drama, games, dance and music, as well as visits to our school library.

Our weekly Forest School sessions, led by a qualified Forest School teacher, provide opportunities to connect with nature, explore the outdoors, take appropriate risks and develop resilience, independence and teamwork through hands-on experiences.

These opportunities help children discover new interests, develop their talents and build confidence in an exciting and supportive learning environment.

Growing into Gatehouse Champions

Our Gatehouse Champion Values are introduced from the very beginning of each child’s school journey. Through everyday experiences, children learn the importance of courage, hard work, kindness towards others, perseverance and independence.

Whether trying something new, building friendships, overcoming a challenge or celebrating a personal achievement, we encourage every child to recognise their potential and take pride in their progress.

A Foundation for the Future

As part of the wider Gatehouse School community, our Nursery children benefit from a supportive transition into Reception and the next stage of their education. Through familiarisation visits, shared experiences and opportunities to meet older pupils and staff, children develop a growing sense of belonging and confidence as they prepare for the years ahead.
