Lessons take place in our well-equipped modern science laboratory. Children are encouraged to make links between the different branches of science and between science and other subjects in order to deepen their understanding of how the world works. Investigative and thinking skills are taught, and pupils become increasingly independent at planning and carrying out their own experiments and investigations.
Regular visits to the Science Museum, the Natural History Museum and London’s many other educational centres help to promote the idea that science is exciting and relevant to pupils’ lives. Specialists in particular fields, for example acoustics, astronomy or dentistry, are invited into school to give workshops and talks.
A half-termly optional science project encourages pupils to have fun with science outside school – please visit the Downloadable Forms section of the Parents’ Area for information on this term’s project. Additionally we send teams to science events such as the Bancroft School Science Fair and the Quiz Club science competition.
