Gatehouse is committed to encouraging a passion for reading across all ages. We boast a full-time librarian amongst our staff as well as two age-appropriate and well-stocked libraries. All classes receive a dedicated library slot each week, allowing pupils to pursue a personal enthusiasm for reading outside of their class reading schemes. Younger children enjoy dedicated story-reading sessions in our Lower Junior library, while our Upper Junior Library contains a learning resource centre to aid research and help Year Six with their half-termly publication of the Gatehouse Gazette.
Every year we celebrate Children’s Book Week with a series of events. We also recognise World Book Day with a special school assembly in fancy dress – check the Parents’ Area for photographs. We also host book fairs and arrange a number of author visits for children of all ages.
Our libraries are open before (8.30-9.00) and after school (15.30-16.00) and lunchtime too (12.45-13.30), for lending and returning books. Our librarian and her library helpers are always willing to recommend a suitable book.
