Welcome to our website and thank you for expressing an interest in Gatehouse School. The website gives you some insight into the friendly, family community that makes up Gatehouse, and I do hope you can sense the energy, happiness and enthusiasm that makes Gatehouse such a special place to learn.

As the new Headteacher, I can tell you that one of the main reasons I came to Gatehouse was due to the school’s non-selective, inclusive ethos. The fabulous mission statement “Children of any race, colour, creed, background and intellect shall be accepted as pupils and work side by side, without streaming or any kind of segregation, and with the aim that every child shall get to know and love God, and to develop their own uniqueness of personality, to enable them to appreciate the world and the world to appreciate them” genuinely encompasses everything that we do and all that we stand for. Everything that Gatehouse does is for the Gatehouse family (of children and of parents) and for their growth.  I am supported by a dedicated and talented team of staff, who ensure that each child’s natural curiosity about the world is encouraged and expanded.  Our many successes are achieved through blending traditional values with modern educational principles.

True to the vision of the school’s founder, Mrs Phyllis Wallbank, all children at Gatehouse School are valued as individuals and they develop an excellent approach to academic work, achieving high standards throughout the school in their time with us. Our independent, personalised approach to learning ensures that all of our children acquire a determination to enjoy every opportunity to learn and to give of their best in all that they do.

Although not a Gatehouse parent or former parent (there are many, many teachers who have either put their children through Gatehouse or whom have children who are still here), I appreciate how choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions that you can make on their behalf. You will be entrusting into our care your most treasured possession and we are committed to ensuring that a successful partnership enables your child to achieve in all areas of development.  I warmly welcome you to visit our school, where you will see for yourselves how your child will thrive and achieve at Gatehouse School.

I do hope to have the opportunity to meet you.

Ms Rebecca Whitlock
