Gatehouse believes strongly in encouraging a passion, understanding and above all an interest in all approaches to music.

Each week every Upper Junior classes are taught in our dedicated music room, with access to a wide variety of instruments, recording equipment and musical resources.

The main focus of our music curriculum is composition, giving each child the opportunity to apply both listening and performance skills through hands-on experimentation and music writing. Often a class will work together on a piece of music and perform their finished work in our morning whole-school assemblies, where both music playing and musical performance feature heavily.

Our termly music concerts are important celebrations of the talent within the school and it also showcases the variety of choral and orchestral ensembles in operation in the school. Upper Junior children make musical contributions to all of our drama productions throughout the year, often playing alongside their teachers!

Gatehouse children frequently enjoy concerts and workshops run by professional musicians from, amongst others, the LSO, the London Arts Orchestra and Tower Hamlets Arts and Music Education Service.
