Gatehouse Lower Juniors

Following Nursery, the next big step your children make at Gatehouse is into our Lower Juniors.

This transition is made smooth by regular assemblies, playtimes and foundation stage meetings which enable the Nursery children to become very familiar with the Reception setting, routines and staff.

New House is a purpose-built stand alone building, situated in the tree lined playground. It accommodates two Reception classes and both Year 1 classes. It has direct access to the playground, and is complemented with a canopy and soft outdoor flooring. Both Year 2 classes are nearby in the main school building.

All Lower Junior classes are taught predominantly by their form teachers and teaching assistants within their own classrooms. The exceptions are Games, French, ICT, library and music, all of which are taught by specialist staff. Swimming lessons also begin in Reception once a week at York Hall swimming baths, taught by qualified swimming teachers.
